Ghana Piracy Law

Ghana's legal system is predominately based on British common law, but also encompasses local customary law. Since 1960, with the adoption of the Criminal Code, criminal law has been statutorily derived and administered by the courts, as opposed to local bodies. Section 193 of the Criminal Code criminalizes piracy. The Courts Act of 1993 delegates jurisdiction over acts of piracy, as defined under the Criminal Code, to the High Court of Ghana.
