Equatorial Guinea Piracy Law

Equatorial Guinea possesses a dualist system of civil law based on Spanish colonial structures and local customary law. Equatorial Guinea’s addresses piracy in its Penal Code, an adoption of Spain’s Franco Penal Code, which was in force at the time of Equatorial Guinea’s independence in 1968. Article 139 of the Penal Code defines piracy and outlines the punishment for piracy as the death penalty.
